Masks! We all find ourselves wearing them sometimes, just a common human experience. But it becomes a vicious cycle when we find ourselves trapped in them perpetually, unable to take them off. The vicious cycle of masks wearing blocks the expression of the soul and the craved genuine human communication. In this surreal but mesmerizing painting artist Xiao Lu Liu raises many questions to the viewers. Is the character inside or outside of a space? Why does he or she have so many masks? Is he or she in a performance? What does the face under the happy mask look like? What is that little odd creature on the bottom right? Is the central character in danger? The artist invites you the viewer to answer these questions for yourself and complete your version of the story for this work.
